FAISALABAD. XIV South Asian Games should not be restricted to few major cities but some sports should also be shifted to other important agro-industrial cities in order to harness their specific sports talent in addition to introducing their exportable surplus in international markets, said Engineer Hafiz Ihtasham Javed President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI). He was presenting a document requesting President Pakistan Olympic Association Lt. General (R) Syed Arif HI (M) to Mr. Muhammad Shafiq Secretary General Asian Handball Federation, President Pakistan Handball Federation and treasurer Pakistan Olympic Association to hold some sports events in Faisalabad.
President FCCI underlined the importance of sports and said that it has multidimensional benefits and we must capitalize its maximum dividends by involving the population of various cities in healthy sports activities.He said that various cities have their own specific and specialized field in Pakistani exports. “Faisalabad is globally recognized for its textiles”, he said and added that similarly Sialkot is known for its sports goods. He said that Wazirabad, Gujranwala and Gujrat also have their identity and are synonymous with their products of surgical goods, cutlery products and a well-developed fans industry. He said that these cities need global recognition through promotion of sports to further enhance their products. “In later stages, it will also help Pakistan to float its own “Made in Pakistan” brands in the international markets”, he said and added that the people of these cities must be involved in healthy sports activities for the projection of their soft image at the international level. President Engineer Hafiz Ihtasham Javed said that FCCI had organized an international Kabaddi event during last year in which wrestlers from Iran, Canada and India had also participated. “It provided an opportunity to the people of Faisalabad to enjoy this traditional and rural sport in addition to attracting maximum sports lovers from the global level”, he said and added that in view of the importance of South Asian games, he will request Lieutenant General (R) Arif Hassan (HI) M to scatter different sports in different cities instead of organizing its events in few cities. Muhammad Shafiq Secretary General Asian Handball Federation appreciated the cooperation of Engineer Hafiz Ihtasham Javed in organizing and patronizing different sports events and said that he will continue his legacy of encouraging healthy sports activities. He further said that this event will also help Faisalabad to project its soft image in the different countries. He hoped that these games would also provide an opportunity to the textile exporters to achieve the targets of the new proposed textile policy well ahead of 2025.
