FAISALABAD. A new state-of-the- art and world class expo centre will be established in Faisalabad and funds for its construction would also be allocated under Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) before the culmination of current tenure of present government.
Chairing a high level meeting in ministry of commerce, Hajji Muhammad Akram Ansari State Minister for Commerce & Textile directed all concerned ministries and departments to finalize this proposal in according to the set format so that a MOU could be signed and funds could be released accordingly from the PSDP during this month.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Shabbir Hussain Chawla President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry in addition to the officials from the ministries of commerce, textile and planning while the representative of the provincial ministry for industries, FEDMIC and Pakistan Expo Centre.
Mr. Shabbir Hussain Chawla underlined the economic importance of Faisalabad and said that it has become a major industrial hub of the country. Faisalabad has a unique privilege to contribute 55% share in the total textile export of the country. “Similarly other sectors were also contributing their modest role for its overall growth”, he said and added that despite of it economic and industrial importance there was no expo centre to organize international events and exhibitions. Shabbir Hussain Chawla said that FCCI was demanding since long for the construction of expo centre which remained pending till today.
However, he appreciated the personal interest taken by Hajji Akram Ansari in resolving the issues confronted by the textile sector. He specifically mentioned the Prime Minster textile package which has spurred direct export of textile from Faisalabad.
Regarding Expo Centre, he said that it will help our exporters and regularly organize exhibitions of international standards which will help to contribute its role to further increase exports from this city.
Hajji Akram Ansari assured that government has committed to resolve the outstanding demands of Faisalabad and hopefully the final decision for the construction of expo center will help to start physical work on this mega project of national importance.
Mr. Chawla thanked Hajji and assured full support for the revival of national economy.
